Seussical @ Absegami High School

Oh the places they went (and the notes that they hit!) at Absegami High School every rhyme was a fit. Seussical was sappy and snappy and buzzing with glow. Whos all in harmony, stealing the show.

Seussical is a whimsical and vibrant mashup of classic, favorite Dr. Seuss tales. This show was created by the magical Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens, it first hit Broadway with its vibrant colors on Broadway in 2000. It blends Horton's jungle adventures with whoville chaos, circus cheer and is complete with a Cat in the Hat who stirs the pot... and the plot!

In Absegami's production of Seussical it didn't just tell a story, it built an entire technicolor world right before our eyes. The visually stunning set burst with color and imagination, the younger performers who stepped in as Whos added an extra layer of authenticity, while the always active, lively ensemble filled every moment with energy, passion, and personality, which made the stage feel alive from curtain to curtain.

The Leading performances were definitely nothing short of captivating. The Cat in the Hat, Mason Kane commanded the stage with eye magnet presence, delivered sharp comedic timing and impressively strong vocals that anchored the entire show. As JoJo, Emily Wozniak delivered a heartfelt performance, blending strong vocals with genuine, expressive acting made every imaginative story telling moment feel completely real. Lara Pruitt's Gertrude McFuzz was a vocal standout, she had radiant energy, crystal clear diction, and her heartfelt connection with Horton the Elephant portrayed by Michaelina Miconi made their dynamic truly touching. The playful chaos of the dynamic duo, Thing One and Thing Two (Jacey Leneis, Margaux Wynne) added a burst of mischievous energy. Their constant audience interaction kept the crowd fully engaged and always laughing.

The cast of this production can only be described as extraordinary. The Bird Girls (Kelley Bannach, Lena Hayes, and Adelaide Wynne) dazzled with sky-high energy and sparkling, tightly blended harmonies, while the Wickersham Brothers (Danny Paton, Hailey Schweizer, and Grace Young) swung into scenes with mischievous flair and perfectly timed antics. Kayden Komraus's Sour Kangaroo strutted in with powerhouse vocals and scene stealing sass, delivering laughs as effortlessly as high notes. Reagan Ade's Mayzie LaBird was fabulously bold and bedazzled, she radiated star energy every time she flew on stage. The sharp commanding, The Military number was impressively choreographed by student Mason Young. The ensemble didn't just support the story, they made the jungle joyfully jump to life.

From a technical standpoint, Seussical was an absolute showstopper. The set was imaginative and beautifully constructed, the lighting painted each moment with vibrant moods and magic. Margaux Wynne's makeup design was equally as impressive, and the student made/designed costumes by Stephanie Paton and Grace Young were detailed, and elevated each character's performances. There were seamless transitions, eye catching props, floating bubbles, whimsical fish, and even runways that extended the action into the audience. All technical elements worked together so well that created a world that felt perfectly playful, polished and professionally produced.

All in all, Absegami High School's Seussical was a whirlwind of comedy, choreography, color, and crazy good talent that never missed a beat. If Horton heard this much talent on a speck, he would be yelling "A person's a STAR no matter how small!"
