The Little Mermaid @ Cedar Creek High School

The fish-out-of-water tale, The Little Mermaid, was magically brought to life by Cedar Creek High School. With enchanted seashells, powerful spells, and mystical voicesthese captivating elements are not to be missed. So let's take a dive under-the-sea!

The bubbly Broadway production of The Little Mermaid was written by Doug Wright and opened on Broadway on January 10th, 2008. The fairy tale follows Ariel, an adventurous mermaid who is hooked on the idea of being a part of the world above the sea.

Cedar Creek's production was anchored by the waves of energy from the cast, as well as the beautifully detailed costumes and makeup. The cast's energy filled the room; their performance was shore-ly captivating, and their voices echoed throughout the sea. The aquatic presentations transported the audience hundreds of feet below the surface. Their dazzling costumes were perfectly matched with their makeup and hair, making the characters truly pop. The fish costumes and shimmering scales added a fin-tastic touch, making their looks come to life.

The lovely Princess Ariel was brought to life by Bailey Kurtz, whose voice was sea-soned with beauty and princess-like charm. Kurtz also impressively maintained her mermaid persona with the use of Heelys, adding an elegant touch to her performance. Prince Eric was played by Carter Wilson, who swept princesses off their feet, bringing the charming character to life with his charisma and capturing the hearts of many.

Ariel's sea friends, Flounder and Sebastian, portrayed by Hannah Kurtz and Danyelle Foye, added raw emotion to their performances. Kurtz, as Flounder, had sibling-like chemistry with Ariel's sisters, and a character infused singing voice, which emphasized Flounders character. Foye, as Sebastian, conveyed stress and fear during "Les Poissons," while evading the chef's attacks, making the scene electrifying. The ensemble chefs, led by Lauren Rhodes as Chef Louis, brought exhilarating energy, chasing Foye around the theater and making entertaining character choices. Flotsam, played by Reese Dolinsky, and Jetsam, played by Joshue Levine, portrayed Ursula's evil minions. Their chemistry was explosive and captivating, perfectly executing the mischievous villains. Each person did their part to make the production feel like a true "Part of Your World."

The bubble machines throughout the show brought the auditorium "Under the Sea." Actors floated through the aisles, blowing bubbles to the audience while showcasing their vibrant makeup. The makeup crew did a perfect job coloring the mermaids' faces, making them detailed and radiant, with the look remaining flawless throughout the performance. The lighting lit up many scenes, perfectly matching the mood and intensifying the stormy moments, while adding a sense of beauty to every scene.

Cedar Creek's production of The Little Mermaid truly brought the enchanting world of Ariel to life. The talented cast and crew portrayed vibrancy, elegance, animation, and a splash of "Positoovity" throughout the performance, making real magic come alive. Together, they delivered a truly magical and unforgettable performance.
